How to generate results over multiple school years in the ACER Data Explorer

This article provides information on how to export reports to compare results for the same class over multiple school years.

Extracting a report spanning over multiple school years (for example term 4 of the previous year and term 1 of the current year) can be achieved with the ACER Data Explorer Progress report.

Loading the Data Explorer Progress report:

Follow either of the following pathways to load the Data Explorer:

  1. Click Reports
  2. Select a learning area
  3. Select ACER Data Explorer

or

  1. Click Students
  2. Select one or more student.
Note: A selection is required here but will not be applied when the Data Explorer loads – you can select your required cohort within the Data Explorer itself.
  3. Select a learning area
  4. Select ACER Data Explorer
  5. In the Report type drop down, select Progress
  6. Under Cohort selection, select the year level to include
  7. Under reporting window, select which school years to include
  8. Under Chart type select the year level that matches the year level of the most recent results. This will allow you to see a comparison of your cohorts results against the Australian norms.
  9. You can then export the results by selecting Export > Table (excel)

Although this report will not provide norm information for individual students, you can use their scale score and year level to compare to the relevant norm or reference group data found in the Norms and reference groups support article.

This article provides more information on the Progress report.
