Students' PAT Adaptive testing experience

The structure of PAT Adaptive maintains students' familiar PAT testing experience with only minor changes.

The most significant change is that it is not possible to display the total number of items at the beginning of the test. The nature of adaptive assessment means that students will likely see different items, and different numbers of items, in their tests.

The navigation bar at the top of the screen will expand to show the next group of items each time the student begins a new stage.

Students must view all items (questions) in their test. Results may be excluded from online reporting in the ACER Data Explorer if students skip ahead and submit their test prematurely.

Monitor student progress during testing and encourage students to view and respond to each item in sequence. Students may return to earlier items to enter or change their responses.

If some students still require, you may allow a small amount of extra time, but note that inconsistency in the total time allowed for all students may affect the comparability of results. Use your professional judgement.
