Using the Student report - PAT Early Numeracy Screener

The Student report provides detailed information about an individual student's PAT Early Numeracy Screener results. It shows the student’s risk profile and responses to each item including whether the response was correct, incorrect, or unanswered. The Screener is designed to identify students who may be at risk of difficulties in early numeracy, but it does not identify the cause of those difficulties. It is not a diagnostic assessment and should be used alongside professional judgement and other assessment information. Student report data can be exported in Excel or PDF format.

Understanding the Student report

PAT Early Numeracy Screener Pilot August–September 2026

This pilot study is a critical part of the development process of a PAT Early Numeracy Screener.

Student results reported for this study are provisional. Amongst other aspects, the terminology of 'risk', the labels and definitions of the risk profiles, and the calculations that determine how students are placed in those profiles are still under development and are subject to change between this pilot and the release of a final product.

The Student report provides detailed information about an individual student's PAT Early Numeracy Screener results. Identifying patterns to guide further assessment

By default, the Student report displays the items in the order they appeared in the student's Screener. You can sort the chart and table by clicking each column heading to view the items in different ways.

Sorting responses by Result (correct or incorrect) or by categories such as Strand or Sub-strand can also help you find meaningful patterns that may indicate areas where the student needs further support.

It is important to remember that the PAT Early Numeracy Screener is designed to identify students who may be at risk of difficulties in early numeracy. It is not a diagnostic assessment and does not identify the cause of a student's difficulties. Information in the Student report should be used alongside professional judgement and other assessment information to guide further assessment and support.
