Using the Item Performance report - PAT Early Numeracy Screener

The Item Performance report helps identify common student needs by analysing responses to screener items. You can sort and filter data by strand, delivery mode, fluency, percentage correct, and item position. Detailed item views show individual student responses. Data can be exported to Excel for further analysis.

Understanding the Item Performance report

PAT Early Numeracy Screener Pilot August–September 2026

This pilot study is a critical part of the development process of a PAT Early Numeracy Screener.

Student results reported for this study are provisional. Amongst other aspects, the terminology of 'risk', the labels and definitions of the risk profiles, and the calculations that determine how students are placed in those profiles are still under development and are subject to change between this pilot and the release of a final product.

The Item Performance report is designed to help you identify common areas of need within a group of students.

Throughout this article, we use the term 'item' to refer to any question, prompt or task that a student responds to during the Screener.

You can sort and filter the table using column headings and filters at the left or by the rows at the top of the table. This can help you identify patterns in student responses that may be useful for further investigation. For example, comparing the Strand of an item with the percentage of students who responded correctly may help to identify areas that could benefit from further assessment or support.

  • Strand
  • Delivery mode (independent or interview)
  • Percentage correct (the percentage of students who correctly responded to the item)
  • Position (the order in which items appeared in the screener)
