A test session involves the administration of a test to a single group of students in the same year level. Creating and running test sessions are the final steps to administering the CogAT test:
- Click Proctoring/Scanning > Proctoring.
- Under Manage, your existing test sessions are listed on the lower part of the page. The form for creating new test sessions is in the upper portion of the page. Refer to the table below for notes on how to complete the test session form.
- After completing all fields click Create Session. Your session will appear in the Created Sessions area and is ready for you or another staff member to proctor.
Test session fields
Field name | Notes |
---|---|
Test event |
The test event must be created before creating a test session. If you do not know the test event and there is more than one option in the drop-down menu, consult your test coordinator or administrator. The test event you select determines the options for the fields that follow. |
Grade |
The year level to be tested in this session. If you are testing more than one level simultaneously (for example, testing year 7 and 9 students together), you will need to create separate test sessions for each level you are administering. |
Test group | This will be the name of the test form, for example, ‘CogAT Post-Screener Form 7’ |
Level | The test level should be automatically assigned according to the students’ grade (year) level. |
Battery/Subtest |
The ‘Getting Started’ tutorial will show students how to do the test. If you are administering this tutorial, it will need to be completed in a separate test session. When you are ready to create a session for the full CogAT assessment, select the first subtest in the list (VERBAL/Picture Analogies). Each following subtest will be administered sequentially in the same session. |
Test admin type |
Proctor Led is recommended for F/K–2 students, so you can guide them through the test step by step. Only one Proctor Led test session can be run at a time. Audio – English is recommended for years 3+ as they can listen to the instructions and proceed at their own pace. Audio-led sessions will require headsets. Up to four audio-led sessions can be run simultaneously. |
Session name | Enter a session name that conforms to a naming convention that your school or district has determined, such as the last name of the teacher, the grade, and the subject (for example, Hanson 4 Maths). The session name must be unique within the test event. |
Draw screen |
Select On to allow students access to a sketching page while they wait for a test to begin. Select Off to have those students see a static screen with their name on it and no drawing tools. |
